weekend of culture between Monreale, the Salinas and the Botanical Garden

Weekend CoopCulture Sicily, 5th and 6th July 2019
Guided tours, books and music: a weekend of culture between Monreale, the Salinas and the Botanical Garden

Discover the Old and New Testament on Arab-Norman mosaics, carefully observe the details, admire the Christ Pantocrator, pay attention to symbolic meanings. Go to the Cappella Roano and from there to the silent cloister of the Benedictine monks from Cava dei Tirreni. All guided by the voice of an experienced narrator who, through wi-fi headphones, will lead visitors to discover the Duomo and the Monreale cloister. It will be possible to participate in the particular visit proposed by CoopCulture on Friday 5 July: three possibilities, at 8pm without headphones, at 9pm and 10pm with the help of headphones. Participation until all available places have been filled. Cost: 15 euros full | 10 euros reduced under 18

Saturday 6 July, at the Archaeological Museum of Salinas, at 6.30 pm it is time for “Blind Love” by Luigi Mancuso. The long day at the Salinas Museum will begin at 6.30 pm with the presentation of the book “Amor cieco”, a new collection of short stories by Luigi Mancuso (Torri Del Vento editions). Thirteen stories, fragments of life where the author captures the moment in which everything changes. The conversation between a man and a woman on the terrace of a hotel in Norway (he a painter, her an archaeologist) changes the fate of both; the sudden and incomprehensible monastic choice of a cheerful and vital girl; the two lives of a married woman seduced by the armed struggle in Italy of the revolutionary dream and the mad terrorist drift. Of these and many other stories Luigi Mancuso will speak with the journalist Sara Scarafia. Readings by Rosalia Zangara. Free admission.

At 20, 20.45, 21.30 and 22.15 it is time for guided tours. In fact, the evening continues at the Archaeological Museum of Salinas: where you can choose whether to take part in one of the four scheduled guided tours, or listen to music in the cloister, perhaps tasting a frozen white wine, or browse through a book at the bookshop. The Museum is an open, innovative, interesting place that will open its doors until midnight tomorrow (6 July). Those who want to discover the museum’s collection, learn about the history of the two great anthropomorphic sarcophagi of the necropolis of Pizzo Cannita, or of the famous Stone of Palermo, will be able to participate in visits guided by an archaeologist (10 euros full | 7 euros reduced under 18).

At 21.30 the live Beatrice Visconti. Those who prefer to listen to music in the cloister can discover the beautiful voice of the young (but already much appreciated) Beatrice Visconti, accompanied by Claudio Terzo on guitar, and Diego Tarantino on bass. Beatrice, born in ’98, pungent pen but at the same time sweet and exciting, is under contract with Major Warner Italia and with Patridà records. It was a great success thanks to the single “Paulette” which in 2016 brought it among the twelve finalists of Sanremo Giovani. Free admission.

Saturday, July 6, at 9.30 am, it is time for “The royal city”, the walking tour in the footsteps of the Leopard to discover Palermo. From the Salinas Museum to the Botanical Garden. CoopCulture proposes a walk to discover the most representative museums, squares and monuments of Palermo. It starts from the Culture Concept Store, after breakfast at the Cafè Culture and a visit to the Salinas Museum. The itinerary then continues through the streets of the center where, thanks to the narration of expert guides, you will discover the most characteristic and lively places, reliving the atmosphere of the Palermo of the viceroys, following in the footsteps of the Leopard. Reservations required. Cost: 25 euros whole | 15 euros reduced. The rate includes: guided tour + welcome coffee + entrance ticket to the Salinas Museum + entrance ticket to the Botanical Gardens.
